OVERVIEW

The One Day versions of the Intro are day long affairs in either Minneapolis or St. Paul. If you’ve got a free day while on a trip, these Loreways are your best bet to get the most out of the BIG things in each city.

One Day: Minneapolis + MOA combines elements of the Short version of the Intro and the Weekend version. It adds 3 more miles of walking, and there is a lot of it. 12 miles. But don’t worry, you’ll get plenty of opportunity for breaks.

We’ll be seeing the origin of the Twin Cities, one of the main reasons for the mass exodus to live here in the 1800’s. We’ll also get a taste of why Minneapolis is called the City of Lakes. We’ll visit a couple of Minneapolis’ biggest landmarks: the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture and the beautiful Minnehaha Falls, an urban park made famous by Longfellow’s poem “The Song of Hiawatha”.

What food is unique to the Twin Cities? The biggest contender (other than Tater Tot Hotdish) is a Jucy Lucy!!! This is a burger with a patty filled with molten lava cheese. We’ll go to the original spot, Matt’s Bar, where these babies were birthed.

We’ll also visit Minnesota’s biggest tourist attraction, the Mall of America! Why is this Loreway called Minneapolis + MOA? Because the Mall of America (MOA) is technically in Bloomington, MN. We’ll take a few revolutions around and through the complex and see why people flock to the biggest mall in the USA!

Afterward, you’ll have your choice to either succumb to exhaustion and call it a night, or continue the party in downtown Minneapolis’ North Loop neighborhood, the hippest place for night life in the Twin Cities.

I believe you’ll truly get a taste of why this particular side of the Mississippi does its share of making the Twin Cities a remarkable destination.

However, we haven’t touched on what the other half of the Cities has to show in the “remarkable” category . . .

One Day: St. Paul is truly an encapsulated experience that visits, or at least passes by, most of the major landmarks and tourist destinations. Saint Paul is a bit more laid back, a truly Midwestern feeling city with a blue collar vibe.

We’ll start at a historical site for breakfast: Mickey’s Diner, constructed in 1939, it is the quintessential diner experience! Next, we’ll head to the Twin Cities’ version of Central Park in NYC: Como Park. Here, we’ll visit the free zoo, conservatory and amusement park. This park truly gives off turn-of-the-century vibes.

Lunch time! We’ll head back downtown and get a bite to eat at the famous Cossetta, an Italian style deli that makes you feel like you’re in NYC. All carbed up, we’ll have energy (or suffer through an impending food coma) to walk over to one of the premiere museums in the Cities: the Science Museum of Minnesota. Touching on Minnesota history, the human body, technology, it has a little bit of everything.

Time to head up into the neighboring Cathedral Hill area, a charming quadrant of Saint Paul. We’ll have dinner reservations at W.A. Frost, a fine dining establishment that feels like it was time warped from the 1920’s. They might possibly have the best patio in the entire metro!

Afterward, we’ll finish our walking tour of Cathedral Hill, which, again, looks pretty much exactly the way F. Scott Fitzgerald experienced it (we’ll even see his birthplace!).

And finally, a nightcap reward back down on West 7th Street, THE gathering place for downtown Saint Paul. Nestled in the shadow of Grand Casino Arena (where our pro-hockey team, the Minnesota Wild, plays), this is the pre-game and post-game (or pre-concert/post-concert) mecca!! Saint Paul is famous for its Irish Pubs and Bars, so I figured the primary watering hole to visit should be Patrick McGovern’s!!

Whatever side you choose (you could even choose BOTH), the day is gonna be epic, exhausting, and exhilarating!!!!!

Choose below which of the One Day experiences you’d like to traverse. We’ll see you on the Loreway!!!!!
